Gujarat Titans were defeated by four wickets by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in yesterday’s RCB versus GT match. With a four-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru maintained their playoff chances. Captain Faf du Plessis top-scored with a scorching 64, while Dinesh Karthik provided the finishing touches following a batting stutter.
Following a brilliant bowling effort by Yash Dayal, Vyshak Vijaykumar, and Mohammed Siraj that resulted in two wickets apiece to dismiss GT for a disappointing 147, du Plessis and Virat Kohli provided RCB a flying start with a 92-run opening partnership that came off of just 35 balls.
Between the two, Du Plessis was the more aggressive, striking three sixes and ten fours in his 23 balls at the crease. After he fell, GT took six wickets from overs 6-11, setting off a stunning RCB batting collapse.
In the first over of the chase for 148, Kohli lofted and whipped Mohit Sharma for two sixes. After greeting Joshua Little with a pulled four, Du Plessis took two fours and a six in the second over, which ended with 20 runs.
Subsequently, he launched an assault on rookie spinner Manav Suthar, hitting him for six and four in the third over before lofting Mohit over mid-wicket to take RCB to fifty in just 19 balls. Du Plessis struck three more fours off Mohit in an eighteen-run fourth over, demonstrating that he was unstoppable.
In the midst of extreme strain on the Royals, a composed Karthik emerged to ease the tension in the run chase by dismissing Rashid Khan with three fours in the 12th over (16 runs): a whip over mid-wicket, a draw over square leg, and a firm slice over cover.
With 38 balls remaining, RCB crossed the finish line with much relief on their faces thanks to two exquisite sweeps by Swapnil Singh off Noor and a massive six he delivered to Rashid on the ground.
