Uganda defeated Papua New Guinea three wickets on Thursday (IST) to win their first-ever match at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup because to the legendary bowling stats of veteran spinner Frank Nsubuga.
At the age of 43, Nsubuga had an outstanding debut in the Twenty20 World Cup, taking 2-4 to help bowl out Papua New Guinea for 77. With ten deliveries remaining, his squad then succeeded in reaching the goal.
The Men’s T20 World Cup records show that Nsubuga’s four runs conceded were the fewest by any bowler in history when they bowled their entire allotted four overs. This figure surpasses the seven runs South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje conceded in the Proteas’ match against Sri Lanka earlier in the competition, according to ICC.
Nsubuga was one of four bowlers from Uganda who claimed two wickets. Juma Miyaga (2/10), Alphesh Ramjani (2/17), and Cosmas Kyewuta (2/17) all made contributions as Papua New Guinea was eliminated in the last over of their innings.
Uganda, chasing a total of 78 runs, was in danger when they found themselves at 6/3 in 2.1 overs, as Papua New Guinea was showing her will to rally.
With a score of 33, Riazat Ali Shah finally secured the team’s first victory at a Men’s T20 World Cup by being calm and determined in the face of pressure.
