The sixteen-year-old son of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, Rocky Flintoff, has signed his first professional deal with Lancashire.
Flinfoff enrolled in the Lancashire academy last year and was picked in the England Under-19s side to play Sri Lanka earlier this week. This season, he has made four appearances for the 2nd XI, scoring fifty runs against Durham and a century against Warwickshire.
Because of how much his technique resembled his father’s, videos of him batting became viral on social media.
“I’m very happy and excited to have signed my first professional contract with Lancashire,” Rocky Flintoff stated. “It’s something I’ve been aiming for since I began playing cricket, so signing for my own county is the realisation of a dream.
“Being able to continue representing the Red Rose is a great honour, as I’ve been a part of the club since I was eight years old. So far this season, I’ve enjoyed playing for the Second XI, and I’m excited to keep improving all facets of my game.”
Mark Chilton, Lancashire’s director of cricket performance, said: “I would want to congratulate Rocky, his family and everybody who has been with him on his journey in cricket thus far.
“His performances and resolute approach for the Second XI thus far this season have impressed the coaching staff. Being a realistic person, he understands that in order to reach his full potential in the coming years, the effort must begin now.
“Rocky will be away with the England U19s for the next couple of weeks, and we look forward to welcoming him into the professional squad after that.”
After making his Lancashire debut in 1995, Andrew Flintoff went on to establish himself as one of England’s most important all-rounders, appearing in more than 200 matches across all forms. He gained notoriety in 2005 for his contribution to the Ashes’ return to England after 16 years in Australian hands.
