Hardik Pandya Likely To Become The Next T20I Captain Of India, Know 3 Reasons Why He Might Be Rohit’s Replacement

India’s upcoming T20I captain is Hardik Pandya: Following India’s T20 World Cup victory, veteran Virat Kohli and Indian captain Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from T20 International cricket. As a result, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently looking for players to select a new full-time captain for the T20I team. All-rounder Hardik Pandya, though, is rumoured to be selected by the board.

Pandia might replace Rohit for a number of reasons, the first of which is that he has captained the national team in 16 games while Rohit has been absent, winning 10 of them.

The second reason is that the Gujarat Titans (GT) finished second in 2023 and won their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in 2022, both while he was captain.

However, after joining the Mumbai Indians (MI) and taking Rohit Sharma’s place as captain in the 2024 IPL, Pandia was subjected to a number of complaints. More significantly, he was supposedly facing a serious financial issue and it was rumoured that his wife, Natasa Stankovic, was divorcing him.

Following India’s thrilling triumph over South Africa, Pandia revealed in an interview, “A lot of things were said about me. But I remained silent—not utter a single word. Because I was aware that I could shine and accomplish my goals if I continued to work hard.

By taking the huge wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, Pandya was instrumental in helping India stage their World Cup-winning performance by rallying them from the brink of disaster. With 16 runs needed for South Africa, he bowled the last over. He was able to defend, though, and India won by seven runs.

The third reason is that Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, has also made suggestions that he will succeed Rohit. But the new 20I fulltime captain’s identity won’t be revealed until they’ve met with the selectors. “The selectors will be consulted before the skipper is revealed. There were doubts about Hardik’s form, but the selectors and we continued to have faith in him, and he eventually proved us right,” Shah was cited by crictoday.com.
