Gautam Gambhir, a former cricket player, was named the Indian cricket team’s new head coach on Tuesday. Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), provided this information.
“It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr. @GautamGambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team,” tweeted Jay Shah. Gautam has seen firsthand how quickly the game of cricket has changed in the modern era. I have no doubt that Gautam is the best person to lead Indian cricket forward since he has persevered through hardship and succeeded in a variety of roles during his career.
“His extensive expertise and well-defined vision for #TeamIndia put him in an ideal position to assume this thrilling and much sought-after coaching position. He continued, saying, “The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey.”
The BCCI had already made contact with Gambhir about the position. He oversaw the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) 2024 IPL trophy victory as their coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Gambhir has previously been approached by the BCCI for the position, and last month, he and WV Raman were questioned by the board’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for the head coach position.
Now that Jay Shah has confirmed his employment, Gambhir will take over as head coach in place of Rahul Dravid.
Notably, between 2003 and 2016, Gautam Gambhir played 58 Tests, 147 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 37 Twenty20 Internationals for India. During that time, he made a significant contribution and even assisted the nation in winning a few games.
He had played for the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, where he had won two titles. In addition, he served as the Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) mentor. But in the most recent season, he broke up with them and joined KKR.
