The captain of Sri Lanka, Chamari Athapaththu, decided to bat first against Malaysia with a women’s Asia Cup semifinal position firmly in their sights.
The Sri Lankan team that defeated Bangladesh two nights prior saw up to four changes. They made significant changes to the bowling department, and Sugandika Kumari, Udeshika Prabodhani, and Achini Kulasuriya were among those who had to make way. Ama Kanchana, Sachini Nisansala, and Inoshi Priyadharshani entered. Hasini Perera was pulled out of the batting lineup to make room for Kawya Kavindi.
Jamahidiya Intan was replaced by 16-year-old Nur Izzatul Syafiqa, who made his debut on the international scene, marking Malaysia’s only change.
After losing to Thailand handily in their first match, Malaysia has to win this one.
