Due to injuries to their shoulders, Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka would miss the remaining two One-Day International matches against India.
Additionally absent from Sri Lanka are Dushmantha Chameera (illness) and Nuwan Thushara (tuberculosis). The T20Is had also been missed by these two players.
Team manager Mahinda Halangoda confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that Sri Lanka has added uncapped right-arm seamer Mohamed Shiraz to the squad for the time being. According to him, the squad will also reveal the addition of a second seamer later on Thursday. Although he hasn’t participated in an ODI since the middle of 2021, Binura Fernando is still recuperating from the flu and won’t be available.
“Matheesha has jarred his shoulder, and because it is the same issue that he had during the World Cup last year, they have chosen not to risk it,” Halangoda stated. Pathirana sustained the injury during a fielding drill during the third Twenty20 International match in Pallekele. He was out of the game before bowling a single delivery.
Halangoda stated that Madushanka had suffered the hamstring injury while training. In the T20I series, he had only participated in one game.
For Friday’s opening ODI against India, Pathirana and Madushanka were probably going to be in the starting lineup. In all formats, Sri Lanka has lost their last ten games against India.
