Following their victory in the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that the women’s team will be playing two Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals in Ireland from August 11–20. On August 6, the group will leave for Ireland.
This will be Ireland’s third bilateral assignment of the year, their first at home after playing Thailand and Zimbabwe in the UAE and Zimbabwe, respectively. This will be Sri Lanka’s first bilateral trip of Ireland.
Ireland hasn’t lost a bilateral match this year, but Sri Lanka, who have won 18 of their last 23 white-ball matches, will provide a much tougher challenge. With three wins in ODIs and three victories in T20Is, Sri Lanka has an impeccable record against Ireland as well.
But this will be the first time these two teams have faced off since Sri Lanka won handily in the 2017 Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier. They were also scheduled to play each other in the 2021 ODI World Cup Qualifier; however, the match was postponed following the cancellation of the entire competition due to the severe travel restrictions placed on the area as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first of two T20Is in Dublin on August 11 will kick off the tour. The ODIs will take place in Belfast after the completion of the second Twenty20 International on August 13, which will also take place in Dublin. On August 16, the three-match ODI series that is a part of the 2022–2025 ICC Women’s Championship cycle will start.
