Joginder Sharma, the 2007 T20 World Cup hero, and famous Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni recently met. Dhoni was the captain of Team India previously. After a 12-year separation, Sharma expressed his happiness to finally meet Dhoni and shared snippets of their reunion.
The former cricketer took to his Instagram handle and shared the video with a caption that read, “It was nice to meet @mahi7781 after a very long time. The fun of meeting you after almost 12 years was different today”.
It is noteworthy to remember that Joginder Sharma bowled the 2007 T20 World Cup final over. India and Pakistan faced off in the tournament final in Johannesberg, where Joginder’s last over and MSD’s cunning strategy helped the Men in Blue win.
With batsman Misbah-ul-Haq at the crease, Pakistan needed 12 runs in the last over—their all-time adversary, Team India. Joginder was selected by Dhoni to bowl the last over during this. Though several questioned this choice, Dhoni’s confidence in his plan allowed the squad to triumph.
Despite Joginder’s wide opening over, which was followed by a dot and six mishabits, the Men in Blue were under more pressure. But MS Dhoni stayed composed and had faith in Joginder.
On the match’s fourth ball, Misbah attempted a daring shot. Sreesanth, who was positioned at short fine leg, caught the ball as it hung in the air. India made history and won the T20 World Cup in this way.
Following its victory in 2007, India went on to win the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2011, the Champions Trophy in 2013, and the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024. The nation was ecstatic about the team’s recent success in the ICC T20 World Cup.
