President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), Rohan Jaitley, has denied rumours that he could take over as BCCI secretary in the event that Jay Shah is chosen to lead the International Cricket Council (ICC).
There have been rumours that Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI at the moment, will probably be named the next chairman of the ICC as Greg Barclay has chosen not to run for the position again. Greg Barclay formally notified the ICC board last week that he will relinquish his position as ICC chairperson upon the end of his term in November.
After being selected as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020, Barclay was able to win an easy reelection in 2022. With Barclay’s decision to retire, Jay Shah is the clear favourite to succeed him as ICC Chairman.
His promotion to the international arena will result in a vacancy at the BCCI. Following his incredibly successful tenure as the secretary of both the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the BCCI, Jay Shah has recently become the most well-known cricket administrator in the area.
Jay Shah may assume the role of ICC Chairman as he approaches the end of his term and faces a cooling-off period. After his departure to the ICC, Rohan Jaitley was supposed to take over. On Monday, though, Jaitley refuted reports that he will assume control of the BCCI missions. Jaitley asserted that his main goal is to increase the league’s popularity. (With IANS inputs)
