IPL mega auction: Rasikh Dar picked by RCB for Rs 6 crores, Mohit Sharma roped in by DC

At Sunday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) paid Rs 6 crores for the fast bowler Rasikh Salam of Jammu and Kashmir.

He received offers from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals, with whom he claimed nine wickets in eight games the previous season, during the auction. They attempted to use the “Right to Match” card, but RCB emerged victorious.

During the just finished ACC Emerging Team Asia Cup, Rasikh claimed nine wickets at an average of 10.33 in four games.

After receiving an offer from Punjab Kings as well, Rajasthan Royals purchased bowler Akash Madhwal for Rs 1.2 crores for the Mumbai Indians (MI), who had entered the auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh. He has taken 19 wickets in 13 MI games over the past two seasons.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) paid Rs 2.2 crores to acquire Mohit Sharma, an Indian speed veteran who entered the auction as a “uncapped player” because he had not played international cricket for more than five years. He took 27 wickets in 14 games during his comeback season with the Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2023. He has claimed 132 IPL wickets in 112 games.

Vyshak Vijaykumar, who took four wickets in four games and was instrumental in RCB’s playoff run, was acquired by Punjab Kings for Rs 1.8 crores; his previous team did not use the RTM card for him.

Kartik Tyagi, a pacer, was not sold.

Additionally, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) paid Rs 1.8 crores to acquire Vaibhav Arora, a swing bowler from Himachal Pradesh. He claimed 11 wickets in 10 games during the previous season with the KKR champions this year. The Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals also made bids for him.

After playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) the previous season and taking 11 wickets in 10 games, including a fifer, Yash Thakur of Vidarbha was acquired by the Punjab Kings for Rs 1.6 crores.

With a number of foreign stars entering the auction, records certain to be set, and the potential for some surprise crossovers, Sunday and Monday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega sale will be one of the most exciting days of this year’s cricket calendar.

Out of the 1,574 names in the original pool, 574 players have been shortlisted. From November 24 to 25, these players will be put to the test in Jeddah. There are 318 uncapped Indian players, 208 foreign players, and 12 uncapped foreign stars on the list.
