BGT 2024–25: Jasprit Bumrah cheers on the final ball as India is bowled out

Red-hot’s excellent bowling performance In the fifth and final Test match against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday, captain Jasprit Bumrah’s wicket on the final ball of the day’s play gave India something to cheer about after Scott Boland pushed them to a low score despite battling knocks from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja.

At 9/1 at the completion of the session, Australia had an undefeated Sam Konstas (7*).

With Ravindra Jadeja (11) and Rishabh Pant (32) undefeated, India started the fourth session at 107/4.

A brilliant delivery from Scott Boland caused Pant to misjudge a stroke and toss the ball into the hands of captain Pat Cummins at midwicket, escalating India’s problems against him. With three fours and a six, Pant was out for 40 in 98 balls. In 56.4 overs, India scored 120/5.

After being caught by Steve Smith at slips, Boland took the big wicket of Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was in excellent form, for a duck on the very next ball, giving him a hat-trick. India scored 120/6.

Mitchell Starc also ended Jadeja’s valiant innings of 26 in 95 balls with three fours by trapping him leg-before-wicket. In 62.4 overs, India scored 134/7.

Washington Sundar was later dismissed by captain Cummins for a mere 14 in 30 balls in a contentious judgement. Alex Carey caught him behind as he tried to draw, but he was given out even though it was unclear if the ball struck his bat or gloves. In 66 overs, India was 148/8.

Next to go was Prasidh Krishna, who was caught for just three runs at deep backward square leg after being removed by Starc. In 68.2 overs, India scored 168/9.

Cummins ended Bumrah’s valiant innings of 22 in 17 balls, which included two fours and a six, with a simple catch to Starc at midwicket. In 72.2 overs, India was bowled out for 185.

The Australians’ best bowler, Boland (4/31) was once again a source of frustration for Indian hitters. Cummins received 2/37, while Starc received 3/49.

Australia’s Usman Khawaja and Sam Konstas were the openers. Khawaja was dismissed by Bumrah for a mere two runs on the final ball of the session, allowing KL Rahul to catch at slips. India had momentum at the end of the day, while Australia finished the day poorly.

With Rishabh Pant (32) and Ravindra Jadeja (11) undefeated at the wicket, India was at 107/4 at tea.

Virat Kohli (12*), who was undefeated at the wicket, attempted to strengthen his partnership with Rishabh Pant, who took Gill’s position after lunch, as India resumed the second session at 57/3.

The Indian hitters were uneasy at the crease during a period when the Australians were disciplined with their bowling assault.

Pant’s attacking style, which persisted at the Sydney Test, will be one of the primary topics of discussion during the second session. In the second session, the Indian batsman-wicketkeeper took three body hits from the Australian pacers. The visitors continued to receive bouncers from the Australian bowling assault, which showed no mercy.

In the 48th over, India reached the 100-run milestone. After facing 111 balls, Jadeja and Pant solidified a 35-run partnership, and they deserve all the credit for it.

In the second session, India amassed 50 runs, while the Australian bowling attack managed to claim just one wicket.

Virat Kohli was dismissed by Scott Boland for 17 runs in the 32nd over. Following the conclusion of the renowned series, Kohli’s performance will be discussed because the talisman India batsman was removed in the same way after receiving an outside-off edge.

Scott Boland defeated Yashasvi Jaiswal in the following overs. In the eighth over, the Australian pacer got rid of him for ten runs.

Nathan Lyon took a vital wicket just before the first session finished, dismissing Shubman Gill for 20 runs.

Short scores: Australia: 9/1 vs. India: 185 (Rishabh Pant 40, Ravindra Jadeja 26, Scott Boland 4/31).
