All-rounder Rishi Dhawan declared his retirement from Indian limited-overs cricket on Sunday, after only four appearances for Men in Blue.
The all-rounder from Himachal Pradesh represented the Men in Blue in three ODIs and one T20I. Dhawan managed to take just one wicket in the three ODIs while scoring 12 runs at an average of 12 in two innings. However, in one Twenty20 International, the player took one wicket and scored one run.
The 34-year-old declared his retirement from the limited-overs game on his official social media accounts.
“It’s with a heavy heart, even though I have no regrets, that I’d like to announce my retirement from Indian cricket (Limited over). It’s a sport that has defined my life for the past 20 years. This game has given me immeasurable joy and countless memories that will always stay very close to my heart,” Dhawan wrote in a post on Instagram.
“I want to take a moment to show my gratitude towards the opportunities that were given to me by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. From humble beginnings to representing my nation on the grandest stages, it has been a privilege. Cricket has been my passion, and my reason for waking up every morning. I would like to thank all of my coaches, mentors, teammates, and support staff for the valuable contributions you have made to shaping me into the person I am today,” the post added.
In 134 List A games, Dhawan amassed 186 wickets at an average of 29.74 and amassed 2906 runs at an average of 38.23, including a century. In 135 Twenty20 matches, he smashed 1740 runs at a strike rate of 121.33, took 118 wickets at an average of 26.44, and gave up runs at an economy rate of 7.06. One of his career’s great points was assisting Himachal in winning their first Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021–2022.
During the current Ranji Trophy season, Rishi Dhawan will continue to play first-class cricket for his home team, Himachal Pradesh. His team is presently ranked second in the tournament’s Group B. His squad is still striving to get to the competition’s quarterfinals.
In the current Ranji Trophy season, Dhawan has participated in all five of his team’s games and amassed 397 runs at an average of 79.40 and 11 wickets at an average of 28.45. He ranks as his team’s second-highest run scorer with 397 runs.
Dhawan has participated in 39 Indian Premier League games with the Mumbai Indians (2013) and Kings XI Punjab (2014–2024), hitting 210 runs and claiming 25 wickets.
