According to the ICC, Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib was fined 15% of his match fee for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during Friday’s second Twenty20 International match against Zimbabwe in Harare.
According to the ICC, Naib was punished for “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match,” which is covered under Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The incident happened in the eleventh over of Zimbabwe’s innings when skipper Rashid Khan’s bowling rejected an LBW challenge against Tashinga Musekiwa. With DRS unavailable during the match, Gulbadin Naib showed disapproval by bowing in a simulated prayer and asking for a review.
Along with the penalties, the former Afghanistan captain’s disciplinary record now has a penalty point applied for his first offence in a 24-month period. Gulbadin Naib acknowledged the transgression and agreed to the penalty that Match Referee Andy Pycroft suggested. Therefore, a formal hearing was not required.
Afghanistan chose to bat first against Zimbabwe after winning the toss, according to the match recap.
In the second T20I match of the series, Darwish Rasooli (58 runs from 42 balls, 6 fours, and 1 six) and Azmatullah Omarzai (28 runs from 23 balls, 2 sixes) formed a strong combination in the first inning, leading the visitors to 153/6.
Gulbadin Naib (26 runs from 21 balls, 3 fours) and captain Rashid Khan (3 runs from 2 balls) added a few vital runs to the score at the end of the first inning by remaining undefeated on the crease.
The Zimbabwean bowling attack was spearheaded by Trevor Gwandu and Ryan Burl, who each claimed two wickets during their separate periods.
The only two players to give it their all in the run chase were captain Sikandar Raza (35 runs from 30 balls, 2 fours, and 1 six) and opener Brian Bennett (27 runs from 26 balls, 2 fours, and 1 six). They lost their momentum after being dismissed, and Zimbabwe lost the match.
The Afghan bowling assault was spearheaded by Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq, who each took three wickets in their outings. With two overs left, the Afghan bowling attack successfully held Zimbabwe to 103 thanks to an incredible performance, which helped Afghanistan win the match by 50 runs. In his four overs, Mujeeb Ur Rahman also claimed two wickets.
“Player of the Match” was the title given to Darwish Rasooli.
Zimbabwe and Afghanistan are tied 1-1 in their series going into the final, which will take place at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday, December 14.
