Only a few days after declaring his retirement from both local and international cricket, former India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has joined the Legends League Cricket (LLC).
The LLC is scheduled to launch its upcoming season in September, showcasing a roster of legendary cricket players who will be playing in a league.
Among Shikhar’s many noteworthy accomplishments throughout his career are his Player of the Tournament award from the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and his staggering average of 44.1 while scoring over 6,793 runs in One-Day Internationals. In T20Is, he amassed 1759 runs for India at a strike average of 91.35.
His legacy as a cricketing icon has been cemented by his contributions to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Indian cricket team. Over the course of his ten-year career, he participated in 269 games and amassed 10,867 runs at an average of 40.
“Taking on this new chapter with Legends League Cricket feels like the ideal progression after my retirement. My body is still conditioned for the demands of the game, and while I’m at ease with my decision, cricket is an inseparable part of who I am, it will never go out of me. I’m eager to regroup with my cricketing friends and continue to entertain my fans as we create new memories together,” Dhawan said on joining the LLC.
Co-founder of LLC Raman Raheja greeted Dhawan with a “We are thrilled to have Shikhar Dhawan join us” statement. Fans will certainly be entertained and the sport will surely be improved by his skill and flare. We’re excited to watch him play with other cricket greats. This would strengthen our standing as the famous cricketers’ second innings.
With his transfer to LLC, Dhawan has jumped on the bandwagon as a number of retired cricket greats, such as Aaron Finch, Martin Guptill, and Hashim Amla, have played in the league.
