In T20 cricket, star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell became the 16th player overall and only the third Australian to reach 10,000 runs.
Maxwell achieved this achievement in Brisbane during his team’s opening Twenty20 International of the three-match series against Pakistan.
Maxwell scored 43 runs in just 19 balls, including five boundaries and three sixes, during the game, displaying flashes of form that made him one of the world’s most feared cricket players. He scored runs at a 226.31 strike rate.
Maxwell has now amassed 10,031 runs at an average of 27.70 in 448 games and 421 innings, including seven hundreds and fifty-four fifties. 154* is his highest score in the format.
Maxwell is just the third Australian to get 10,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket; the other two are former openers Aaron Finch (11,458 runs) and David Warner (12,411 runs).
Maxwell has amassed 2,643 runs at an average of 30.03 and a strike rate of 155.56 in 114 Twenty20 Internationals for Australia. He has five hundreds, the most in T20Is by a player, and eleven fifties. His highest rating is 145*.
Maxwell’s batting performance this year has been lacklustre; he has amassed a century and a fifty while only managing 423 runs in 19 innings at an average of 24.88 and a strike rate of over 156. His highest rating is 120*.
Rain delayed the start of the first Twenty20 International in Brisbane. Pakistan chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Maxwell (43 in 19 balls, with five boundaries and three sixes) and Marcus Stoinis (21* in seven balls, with two fours and a six) were the standout batsmen for Australia, which scored 93/4 in seven overs.
Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah each claimed a wicket, but Pakistan’s best bowler was Abbas Afridi (2/9).
