According to the most recent ICC rankings, Hardik Pandya is the first Indian player to hold the top spot among T20I all-rounders. He moved up two slots to take the top spot with Sri Lankan skipper Wanindu Hasaranga after his all-around performances during India’s victorious T20 World Cup campaign, in which they won the trophy without losing.
In the West Indies and the USA, Pandya amassed 144 runs at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 151, in addition to taking 11 wickets at a cost of 17.36. In the final match against South Africa, which India beat by seven runs to win the trophy, he amassed a match-winning 3 for 20. Pandya’s World Cup-best innings with the bat came against Bangladesh, where he scored 50* off 27 balls.
In the meantime, Jasprit Bumrah, his teammate and the T20 World Cup Player of the Series, rose significantly in the bowlers’ ranks. After taking 15 wickets at an average of 8.26 and an economy of just 4.17, Bumrah moved up 12 spots to No. 12. It was Bumrah’s final-ball spell that helped turn the tide for India, with South Africa needing just additional thirty runs from the final five overs.
Other Indian players improved on the rankings were left-arm wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav, who moved up three spots to tie for eighth among bowlers after taking ten wickets at 13.90 at the World Cup. Arshdeep Singh, a seamer who has taken 17 wickets, tied for most wickets taken in the competition, moved up four spots to a career-high No. 13.
Anrich Nortje, a quick bowler for South Africa, rose seven spots to a career-high No. 2 among bowlers after being their leading wicket-taker at the World Cup. With an economy of 5.74 and an average of 13.40, he took 15 wickets.
Additionally, among the all-rounders, Marcus Stoinis, Sikandar Raza, Shakib Al Hasan, and Liam Livingstone moved up one spot apiece to be ranked No. 3, 4, 5, and 8, respectively.
