As Team India prepares for the Champions Trophy, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s lower back issue has forced him to miss the competition. The star pacer’s successor has been announced as Harshit Rana.
In a statement issued Tuesday evening, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Bumrah would not be participating in the competition.
Because of a lower back ailment, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not be participating in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The Men’s Selection Committee has decided to replace Bumrah with Harshit Rana.
Another notable alteration to India’s 15-man roster is the removal of young player Yashasvi Jaiswal and the addition of mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy in his place.
Varun Chakaravarthy has also been added to the team by Team India. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was first included in the provisional team, would be replaced by the spinner, the statement continued.
Since January, Bumrah has not participated in any on-field activities. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match against Australia in Sydney, he made his final appearance.
The A-Lister was clearly uncomfortable after bowling 10.1 overs in the first innings and sought scans. The Australian medics told him not to take part in the rest of the Sydney Test. In the second innings, he came out to bat but failed to do his obligations with the ball.
However, Jaiswal’s exclusion follows his ODI debut in the first three games of the series against England. Chakaravarthy was initially left out of the tentative squad, while Jaiswal was included.
The young southpaw bombed with a knock of 15(22) on his ODI debut, failing to deliver with the bat. Chakaravarthy made his ODI debut in the second ODI after Virat Kohli removed Jaiswal from the playing XI. After his 10-over period, he returned with numbers of 1/54.
India will play Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20 to kick off their Champions Trophy campaign.
Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Rohit Sharma (captain) are the members of India’s team for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Mohammed Siraj, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are non-traveling substitutes. When necessary, the three players will make the trip to Dubai.
