For INR 2500 crore (about US$301 million), the Tata Group has extended its title sponsorship of the IPL for an additional five years, from 2024 to 2028. This is the “highest-ever sponsorship amount in the history of the league,” according to a BCCI release. The group is the title sponsor of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the IPL for the years 2022 and 2023.

IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal stated, “The partnership with TATA Group for the title sponsorship of IPL 2024–28 is a significant milestone in IPL’s journey.” “The incredible value and popularity that the Indian Premier League (IPL) have in the sports world is demonstrated by TATA Group’s record-breaking INR 2500 crore.

“This extraordinary sum not only establishes a new standard in the league’s history but also confirms the IPL’s standing as a top athletic event with a significant international following. The dedication of TATA Group to sports and cricket is genuinely admirable, and we’re excited to reach new heights together and give cricket fans unmatched pleasure.”

For the past two seasons, Vivo has been replaced as the IPL title sponsor by the Tata Group. In June 2020, the political tensions between China and India led the BCCI to temporarily cut its connections with the Chinese mobile and technology business Vivo. For INR 2199 crores (about $341 million at the time), Vivo had initially secured the title sponsorship for the 2018–2022 season. However, Dream 11 took over for Vivo during the 2020 season, and Vivo returned for the 2021 season.

Tata’s offer, which covers the next five years, is 13.7% more than what Vivo had to pay from 2018 to 22.

According to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, “this collaboration embodies the spirit of growth, innovation, and a mutual dedication to excellence.” “The unprecedented financial commitment reflects the immense scale and global impact of the IPL on the international sports stage.”

The men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on June 1st, and the 2024 IPL will begin play on March 22 and last until the end of May.
