India defeated South Africa by nine wickets in the finals on Sunday to win the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025. India took home the trophy for the second time in a row. Today in Kuala Lumpur, the Indian squad played the South African team.
With three wickets for 15 runs and an undefeated total of 44 runs, all-rounder Gongadi Trisha was declared the game’s standout player.
The South African team captained by Kayla Reyneke chose to bat first after winning the toss. The squad scored two straight fours to get the game off to a good start. After the bowlers applied pressure and Aayushi Shukla got rid of Diara Ramlakan with her first delivery, they lost steam. After the powerplay overs, South Africa was 29/3.
The Indian squad, meanwhile, was able to hold the South African players in the middle. For five overs, Karabo Meso and Reyneke were unable to score any boundaries. Trisha removed Reyneke with just seven runs from 21 balls in the 12th over. Left-arm spinner Shukla removed Meso off the field. She used 26 balls to score 10 runs. South Africa scored 44/5 in the first 13th over as a result.
The squad increased the scoring pace thanks to Mieke van Voorst’s 23 runs off of 18 balls. However, in the 18th over, Trisha removed her and Seshnie Naidu. Fay Cowling smashed the first six of the innings on the last over. Monalisa Legodi and Cowling were knocked down by Vaishnavi Sharma. In the final over that Parunika Sisodia bowled, the SA squad managed just one run. In 20 overs, South Africa was knocked out for 82.
With many boundary knocks from the combination of Trisha and G Kamalini, India got off to a strong start in the run chase. India reached 36 for no loss after four overs thanks to three fours by Trisha in the fourth over. In the fifth over, captain Reyneke took out G Kamalini. She used 13 balls to score eight runs. When the powerplay overs came around, India had scored 44/1. Saina Chalke completed the run chase with a boundary in the twelfth over. With 52 balls remaining, this helped India win the finals by nine wickets. Trisha, the opener, was still undefeated after reaching 44 off 33 balls. She hit eight fours. Chalke, the striker, was still undefeated at 26 off of 22 balls.
