Following his outstanding play in the just finished three-match Test series against New Zealand, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant climbed in the most recent Test player rankings on Wednesday.
In a constantly shifting environment within the top 10 list for Test bats, Pant and Mitchell were the primary beneficiaries as New Zealand secured a close 25-run victory in Mumbai to seal a 3-0 series thumping of India.
Following two half-centuries in the Test, Pant moved up five spots to sixth overall, indicating that he is fully recovered from a catastrophic automobile accident. The attacking left-hander is now only one spot off the career-best fifth position he initially had in July 2022.
However, after rising eight spots and scoring 82 runs in the first innings against India, New Zealand batsman Dary Mitchell is now seventh overall, one spot behind Pant. He joins teammate Kane Williamson (second) as the only New Zealanders in the top 10 rankings for Test batsmen.
Right-hander Joe Root of England kept a healthy lead at the top of the category, with his nearest competitors being Steve Smith (sixth), Harry Brook (third), Williamson, and Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth).
After scoring 90 in the first innings against New Zealand in Mumbai, Shubman Gill of India moved up four spots to 16th on the list of Test batsmen, and Player of the Series Will Young moved up 29 slots to 44th overall for the Black Caps.
The big mover on the most recent Test bowlers rankings was veteran spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who moved up two spots to sixth position behind South Africa’s top-ranked Kagiso Rabada after taking ten wickets against New Zealand.
On the same list for Test bowlers, teammate Washington Sundar rose seven spots to 46th, while spinners Ajaz Patel (up 12 spots to 22nd) and Ish Sodhi (up three spots to joint 70th) are among the New Zealanders who have improved.
Keshav Maharaj, a spinner for South Africa, also improved after taking 13 wickets in the Proteas’ most recent series sweep of Bangladesh. The left-armer jumped four spots to 19th overall among Test bowlers.
Following the first game of Australia’s series against Pakistan and the first two games of the West Indies’ home series against England, there were also some changes to the most recent ODI rankings.
Following his 17th ODI century in the second match against England, West Indies captain Shai Hope moved up five spots to 12th on the list of ODI batters, while Liam Livingstone, his teammate, jumped 32 spaces to 58th.
Following the first match of Australia’s series against Pakistan in Melbourne, two left-armers made huge leaps on the ODI bowlers list: Shaheen Afridi moved up three spots to fourth place, while Mitchell Starc improved four spots to 14th.
