Indonesia’s Rohmalia smashes women’s T20I record with 7 for 0 on international debut

In their fifth T20I  international in Bali on Wednesday, teenage Indonesian offspinner Rohmalia set a new world record for the best bowling stats in women’s T20I cricket when she delivered 7 for 0 against Mongolia. It was all the more remarkable that she accomplished the feat on her first overseas outing.

In a T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier in 2021, Rohmalia beat the previous record held by Frederique Overdijk, a seamer from the Netherlands, who had taken 7 for 3 against France. Rohmalia has now taken seven wickets in a match in women’s T20Is, joining Overdijk and Argentina’s Alison Stocks (7 for 3 vs Peru) as the only other bowlers to do so.

After Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini scored 61 in the opening over, Indonesia registered 151 for 5 on Wednesday. Mongolia was bowled out for 24 in response. In just 3.2 overs, Rohmalia claimed a wicket with her opening delivery and did not allow a run to be scored. Seven batters were thrown out for ducks by her.
