In Match 47 of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) openers maintained their dominance as Philt Salt slammed a 33-ball 68 in the opening partnership of 79 runs, propelling them to a seven-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals. On Monday, the KKR vs. DC match was played at the Eden Gardens.
After his countryman Jason Roy withdrew from the competition for “personal reasons,” Phil Salt was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore. Phil Salt had not been sold in the December 2023 IPL 2024 auction. The top wicket-keeper batsman hasn’t let up since, and on Monday he amassed his fourth half-century of the year.
At 79 for no loss, Salt and Sunil Narine brought the Power-play to an end. Before Narine blasted a last-ball four, Phil Salt did the most of the damage in Lizaad Williams’ opening over, which ended at 23.
The slower balls gave the quick bowlers for the Capitals some surface grip, but they weren’t particularly good at using it, giving both batters plenty of opportunities to risk their arms. Salt reached his fifty-sixth run in twenty-six deliveries in an eighteen-run sixth over off the bowl of Khaleel Ahmed.
Earlier, Varun Chakravarthy bowled a wonderful spell of 3-16 for KKR, but Kuldeep Yadav’s superb knock of 35 runs helped Delhi Capitals to 153/9.
The pitch at Eden has not performed like the ones from earlier in the season. After losing that sixer-fest against the Punjab Kings, it seems like KKR requested for something with a little bit more assistance for the spinners. Additionally, their two mystery spinners seem to fit the pitch perfectly.
With five boundaries and a six in his outstanding 35 off 29 deliveries, Kuldeep Yadav guided the Delhi Capitals to 153/9 in 20 overs. Yadav finished his spell with 34 for nil after being introduced late into the bowling attack. With KKR securing their sixth victory and Venkatesh Iyer completing the innings with a six, it was undoubtedly not Yadav’s day at the plate.
