The International Cricket Council (ICC) named Jasprit Bumrah, a bowler representing Talisman India, the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2024 on Tuesday. Jasprit Bumrah defeated Pat Cummins and Dane Paterson to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month title for his outstanding achievements during India’s December 2024 tour of Australia, according to an ICC press release.
Bumrah led India’s bowling assault by himself, taking an incredible 22 wickets at an incredible average of 14.22 over three Test matches. With a remarkable performance in Adelaide, Bumrah’s genius was immediately apparent. His four-wicket haul helped kept India within striking distance and reduced Australia’s lead in the first innings.
He then put on an incredible show in Brisbane, where he destroyed Australia’s batting order with six wickets in the opening innings. Bumrah finished the match with nine wickets after taking three more in the second innings. His heroics kept India in the series by ensuring that the rain-affected match resulted in a draw.
Bumrah put up another outstanding performance at the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. In the first innings, he took four wickets, offering a brief respite from the Indian team’s otherwise poor bowling performance. He then bowled Australia out for 234 after taking five wickets in the second innings. Despite his valiant efforts, India lost by 184 runs as their batting collapsed.
Bumrah proved to be India’s lone fighter during a difficult tour, regularly turning up game-changing displays. In addition to winning Player of the Series, his outstanding performances solidified his status as one of the best bowlers in cricket.
He became the fourth-fastest player to reach the 200th Test wicket milestone in terms of balls bowled throughout the series, marking a significant milestone. He also made history by becoming the first bowler to take 200 Test wickets with an average of less than 20.
