Rahul Dravid, who coached Team India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, turned down the BCCI’s additional Rs 2.5 crore incentive. The incentive money was allegedly promised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for captaining the side to victory in the T20 World Cup.
According to media sources, in order to establish parity, Rahul Dravid chose to accept the same Rs 2.5 crore incentive as his support personnel. Prior to this, Dravid was supposed to receive a Rs 5 crore incentive from the BCCI, the same amount as the players’ squad members.
But he demanded that his bonus be cut in order to match the Rs 2.5 crore awarded to the other support staff members, which included batting coach Vikram Rathore, fielding coach T. Dilip, and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey.
Notably, BCCI awarded a 125 crore prize to the team who won the T20 World Cup in 2024. of which Dravid and the other 15 players had received a share of Rs 5 crore. Each support employee was expected to receive Rs 2.5 crore. Additionally, each selector and squad member who travelled would receive Rs 1 crore.
It is important to note that on June 29, in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final match, the Blue side made history by defeating South Africa. After 17 years, the team carried the World Cup trophy back to their homeland. The last time India had won the Twenty20 World Cup was in 2007, when Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the captain. Indian captain Rohit Sharma has put an end to his country’s long wait for an international trophy with this victory.
