Travis Head, who signed with the Washington Freedom, has decided not to take a break after the T20 World Cup, but will instead play alongside Steven Smith in Major League Cricket’s second season.
Head, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, was obviously worn out at the end of the Australian summer after needing a break during the home white-ball series against the West Indies in February. He then had four months of non-stop cricket, which included the T20 World Cup, the IPL, and the tour of New Zealand.
Only one week after Smith signed with the Freedom, Head decided to continue his 2024 playing odyssey. After the T20 World Cup, Australia’s next scheduled international match is a white-ball tour of England in September.
Following Greg Shipperd’s departure, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting will be the next coach of Freedom, where Head and Smith will be playing.
Rachin Ravindra, an all-around player from New Zealand, has recently signed with Freedom. Marco Jansen and Akeal Hosein, two foreign players from the 2023 campaign, were kept on.
For the second season of MLC, Head joins Smith, Adam Zampa (Los Angeles Knight Riders), Spencer Johnson (Knight Riders), and Tim David (MI New York) as confirmed Australian signings. More are anticipated to sign for the competition, which begins right after the USA and West Indies T20 World Cup concludes on June 29.
