At the Bayuemas Oval on Sunday, the Indian women’s cricket team defeated the West Indies by nine wickets to start their title campaign. Together, Parunika Sisodia, Joshitha VJ, and Aayushi Shukla took seven wickets to lead the dominant nine-wicket.

India won the toss and chose to bowl first. West Indies was badly beaten by pacer Joshitha, who was named Player of the Match, who took 2-5 in two overs. Parunika (3-7) and Aayushi (2-6) then bowled them out for just 44 in 13.2 overs.

With nine wickets remaining and Sanika Chalke and wicketkeeper G Kamalini still at 18 and 16, respectively, India managed to chase down the target in just 4.2 overs.

Joshitha removed Naijanni Cumberbatch and West Indies captain Samara Ramnath. Aayushi and Parunika, meanwhile, each claimed a wicket. The fielders’ excellent fielding earned credit for the remaining three run-outs. Aayushi then took another wicket, and Parunika took two more to complete her three-wicket haul.

In order to give India a resounding victory, Sanika performed well, hitting three boundaries and Kamalini hitting three fours, including the game-winning shot that went over the keeper’s head.

On Tuesday, India will play the hosts, Malaysia.
