Controversy has surrounded Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the second ODI against England in Cuttack; the Indian batsman’s shocked response raised the possibility of a technical glitch. Adil Rashid caught Kohli, who rejoined the squad after missing the first game of the series because of an injured knee, for just 5 runs off 8 balls.

When Rashid produced a delivery with a flatter trajectory that clipped the outside edge due to quick turn, defeating Kohli, the drama began. Jos Buttler, the captain of England, took a DRS after the umpire rejected a strong appeal. Kohli was out after the UltraEdge spiked, but his enthusiastic response as he watched the ruling on the large screen suggested he didn’t believe the ball had struck his bat.

Kohli made his first outing for India since the Test match against Australia in Sydney last month. After missing the Nagpur match because of a knee injury, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak announced that Kohli was “fit to play” for the match. Shreyas Iyer, who was brought into the XI as a late substitute for Kohli, scored the game-winning half-century.

Iyer stated that he only participated in the match due of Kohli’s injury. He claimed that the night before, the skipper called to let him know that he might play. Iyer had to quickly return to his room to get ready as he was watching a movie. He claimed that he was not intended to play the first game and that he treasured the moment.
