The highest score ever recorded in a T20 match in South Africa was 283 for India. India became just the third international team, after Japan and the Czech Republic, to have two batters hit hundreds in a single T20I innings thanks to centuries from Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson.
India scored 23 sixes in their innings, which is the most in a Twenty20 International between two Full Member teams and the third-highest total in an innings.
Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma’s undefeated 210-run partnership is now the greatest for any wicket taken by India in Twenty20 Internationals. Together with their 297 against Bangladesh a few months ago, this incredible achievement puts India in the top two for the highest totals in a Twenty20 International between two Full Member teams.
With his spectacular 120 off 47 balls, Tilak Varma became the fifth player overall and the second Indian, after Sanju Samson, to smash successive hundreds in Twenty20 International cricket.
Sanju Samson reached his third century in his last five Twenty20 Internationals with a score of 109 off 56 balls.
Prior to the game, India captain Suryakumar Yadav chose to bat first after winning the toss. The team’s outstanding performance demonstrated that the decision was successful.
Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson started for India, forming a strong 73-run partnership. Despite his brilliant effort, which included two fours and four sixes, Abhishek was removed by Lutho Sipamla in the sixth over, ending his innings.
Tilak Verma and Samson’s combination did not appear to be slowing down as the innings moved into the last overs. Tilak Varma scored his second T20I century in the very next over after Sanju Samson reached his century in just 51 balls in the 18th over.
Samson and Tilak’s historic 210-run partnership helped India reach a commanding 283/1. Tilak hammered an undefeated 120 off just 47 deliveries, while Samson provided a blazing 109 runs off 51 balls.
Lutho Sipamla was the only bowler to take a wicket, as the South African bowling unit looked unimpressive.
But Sipamla also gave up the most runs, which gave the Indian hitters an advantage.
Tristan Stubbs (43 runs from 29 balls, 3 fours, and 2 sixes) and David Miller (36 runs from 27 balls, 2 fours, and 3 sixes) were the only Proteas top batsmen that put on a good performance in Johannesburg during the run chase.
With one over left, the Indian bowling attack, spearheaded by Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy, managed to hold South Africa at 148.
India won the series 3-1 after defeating the Proteas by an overwhelming 135 runs in the fourth game.
