Yashasvi Jaiswal scripts history, becomes third-highest run-scorer for India in calendar year

Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal became the third-highest scorer for India to record the most runs in a single calendar year on Monday, the fifth and last day of the fourth Test match between Australia and India.

During his innings, Jaiswal scored 84 runs off of 208 balls, including eight boundaries. With a strike rate of 40.38, the left-handed batter hammered runs.

The southpaw hit this knock to reach 1478 runs in a single year. Sunil Gavaskar (1555 runs in 1979), Sachin Tendulkar (1562 runs in 2010), and Virender Sehwag (1462 and 1422 runs, respectively) are the only Indian batsmen who have reached this milestone.

Cricket fans were split by the third umpire Sharfuddoula’s decision earlier in the day to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal on the last day of the fourth Test of the BGT series.

When Jaiswal attempted to take the ball away from Australian captain Pat Cummins on the fifth ball of the 71st over, it became a contentious moment. The on-field umpire rejected Australia’s appeal of the decision. The contentious moment occurred when Cummins chose to take the decision upstairs.

The ball looked to deflect off Jaiswal’s gloves in the replay, however the Snickometer showed no movement as the ball appeared to deflect on its way to wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

The third umpire urged the on-field umpire to reverse the decision because he believed the visual evidence was sufficient to declare Jaiswal out.
